After the match we spoke with Benfica’s Duarte Soares about their first match. He was satisfied with the first win: ‘We knew it was going to be a tough game. It’s the beginning of the pre-season and I think we played a great game. We wanted to press high and play with high intensity.’
Soares’ was prepared to play with the other playing rules, such as dribbling-in in stead of throwing in: ‘I think with the dribbling in stead of throwing there’s more intensity. You need to be constantly focused because the game continues very fast. It’s also more exhausting because the time stops when the ball is out of play’.
Soares is clear about Benfica’s goals for this tournament: ‘Our goal is to keep playing good football and hopefully win the tournament. I don’t have any personal goals, I’m focused on the team.’
