PSV has reached the semifinals of the Otten Innovation Cup after a 1-0 victory over Manchester United. After the match, we spoke with Jairo Beerens.
He was satisfied with both the result and the team's performance. Beerens stated, "I thought we were much better than Manchester United in terms of our play, but we just didn't finish our chances. In previous games, we've also had 15 shots on goal, so our finishing can still improve. I had a few chances myself and need to score more often. But as long as we keep winning, I'm satisfied."
Twenty years ago, his father, Roy Beerens, also played in the Otten Cup. Jairo shared, "He can tell me a lot about his experiences and everything that happens during the tournament. He also advises me on how to make my moves, get into scoring positions, and handle the media."
Beerens is pleased with the rules applied in this tournament: "The game moves much faster, and you have less time to think. You immediately move on to the next action, which is nice as a winger. I wouldn't mind if these rules stayed."
The goal for tomorrow is clear: "We want to win the tournament. Whether it's through penalties or in regular time, it doesn't matter to us. Preferably with good play, of course, but winning is the most important. Personally, I hope to be important for the team and score goals, both in this tournament and throughout the season."
