| Sparta was invited to the 63rd Otten Cup as a replacement of Turkish giants Fenerbahce. The invitation was a result of the growing reputation of the Rotterdam team. Sparta is trained by former Dutch player Arjan van der Laan. It’s not the first time Sparta is present at the Herdgang. They are actually former champions at the Otten Cup, having won the tournament in 1972, 1980 and 1982. The team put up a great performance in the past season. Sparta was ‘best of the rest’, finishing fifth, behind the four title contenders. Sparta A1 started their season July 23rd, a little later then hosts PSV, but the team will be ready for the tournament. |
