This year, hosts PSV will try to keep the Otten Cup in Eindhoven. After two losses last year, the club finished last place in the groupstage and had to play in the 7th place play-off match. Winning this match 1-0 against Heerenveen, PSV finished 7th at the Otten Cup.
PSV has won the Otten Cup 18 times, with the last time being in 2003 when they defeated arch-rivals Ajax in the final 6-0. When winning the Otten Cup 3 times in a row or 5 times in total, a clubs will be the owner of the trophy. As a result of this PSV owns no less than 4 Otten Cups.
Previous season, PSV struggled against relegation for quite some time. Only through a series with good results after the winterbreak, the club managed to clear the relegation zone, eventually finishing 6th.
PSV started their pre-season training on July 13th. After a few friendly matches and the Eurofoot 2009 tournament, in which Otten Cup-participants Tottenham Hotspur, Pão de Açúcar and Anderlecht also participated, PSV has to be ready for the Otten Cup Tournament. |
